The August 25, 2008 meeting at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church was called
to order at 7:00 by our president, Mary Bernower with a mighty bang of
that gavel. J Janet Kekel
is our new member from Salem, Ohio. Becky Dutchon, an Alliance native
who has moved back to Alliance from North Carolina was the guest for the
evening. She is starting up her own long arm business and would like to
join our guild. Let’s see if she returns next month
J
Peggy Castina, our Treasurer, was not present at our meeting so the
treasurer’s report will have to wait until next month. Kathy Wolf
gave the secretary’s report.
Old and New Business:
---The Carnation Quilt Show committee---Gwen Liverett, Margie DelPuppo,
Cindy Bunn, and Priscilla Yukich---deserves a big “Thank You” for a job
well done this year. There were many positive remarks from the public
and we had a good showing from both the community and from us
J
---Fran Oblander sent out letters and made phone calls to the NEORQC
shop hop shops for some prizes we can give out at the October birthday
bash. She had a good response----she is anticipating 11 to 13 shops to
send out gift certificates/fat quarters/various prizes. We will need to
sign up for various jobs for this birthday bash at the September
meeting. Those of you planning on going to the NEORQC get-away in
February/March, don’t forget to have your registration form in a regular
envelope and postmarked September 1st.
---Our October get-away is being planned by Nancy Green, Fran Oblander,
Andrea Niehaus, and Cheryl Hoff. It will be taking place on October 17
and 18th. A supply list was handed out and more instructions
will be finalized at the September meeting.
---Work Days will resume on September 8 from 4:00-8:00 at the church.
Bring a dish to share and energy to work on the favors for the NEORQC
birthday bash.
---The rag quilt challenge was a success. Those that participated were:
Kathy Wolf, Mary Bernower, Cheryl Hoff, Joyce Regoli-
Salamon, Nancy Green, Nora Weekly, Andrea Neihaus, Brenda Sweely, and
Jeanne Ullman. Nancy and Joyce were the overall winners from this group
but in my eyes----we were all winners
J
---Secret Sister gifts were distributed---what fun :)
---Show and Share
-----Mona Floor---baby quilt and a patchwork reversible bag
-----Brenda Sweely---Alice’s Tips (a book to share) and a 42 year old
quilt that was embroidered and quilted by her uncle (Ribbons and Roses
quilt)
-----Becky Dutchon---Christmas quilt that was quilted with her new long
arm machine
---Our program for the evening was a sharing of new and different items
that our guild members have discovered. Mary Bernower shared Best Press
and Fons and Porter magazine…..Mona Floor loves her new sidewinder (for
bobbins)……Ellen Wilson has a ribbons and stars pattern she would like to
share with the world.
The next meeting will be Monday, September 22, 2008 at Abiding Savior
Lutheran Church on Sawburg Avenue at 7:00 pm. See you there
