August 2008
The August 25, 2008 meeting at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church was called to order at 7:00 by our president, Mary Bernower with a mighty bang of that gavel.  J   Janet Kekel is our new member from Salem, Ohio.  Becky Dutchon, an Alliance native who has moved back to Alliance from North Carolina was the guest for the evening.  She is starting up her own long arm business and would like to join our guild.  Let’s see if she returns next month  J
 
Peggy Castina, our Treasurer,  was not present at our meeting so the treasurer’s report will have to wait until next month.    Kathy Wolf gave the secretary’s report.
 
Old and New Business:
 
---The Carnation Quilt Show committee---Gwen Liverett, Margie DelPuppo, Cindy Bunn, and Priscilla Yukich---deserves a big “Thank You” for a job well done this year.  There were many positive remarks from the public and we had a good showing from both the community and from us  J
 
---Fran Oblander sent out letters and made phone calls to the NEORQC shop hop shops for some prizes we can give out at the October birthday bash.  She had a good response----she is anticipating 11 to 13 shops to send out gift certificates/fat quarters/various prizes.  We will need to sign up for various jobs for this birthday bash at the September meeting.  Those of you planning on going to the NEORQC get-away in February/March, don’t forget to have your registration form in a regular envelope and  postmarked September 1st.
 
---Our October get-away is being planned by Nancy Green, Fran Oblander, Andrea Niehaus, and Cheryl Hoff.  It will be taking place on October 17 and 18th.  A supply list was handed out and more instructions will be finalized at the September meeting.
 
---Work Days will resume on September 8 from 4:00-8:00 at the church.  Bring a dish to share and energy to work on the favors for the NEORQC birthday bash.
 
---The rag quilt challenge was a success.  Those that participated were:
Kathy Wolf, Mary Bernower, Cheryl Hoff, Joyce Regoli-
Salamon, Nancy Green, Nora Weekly, Andrea Neihaus, Brenda Sweely, and Jeanne Ullman.  Nancy and Joyce were the overall winners from this group but in my eyes----we were all winners  J
 
---Secret Sister gifts were distributed---what fun :)
 
---Show and Share
        -----Mona Floor---baby quilt and a patchwork reversible bag
-----Brenda Sweely---Alice’s Tips (a book to share) and a 42 year old quilt that was embroidered and quilted by her uncle (Ribbons and Roses quilt)
-----Becky Dutchon---Christmas quilt that was quilted with her new long arm machine
 
---Our program for the evening was a sharing of new and different items that our guild members have discovered.  Mary Bernower shared Best Press and Fons and Porter magazine…..Mona Floor loves her new sidewinder (for bobbins)……Ellen Wilson has a ribbons and stars pattern she would like to share with the world.
 
The next meeting will be Monday, September 22, 2008 at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church on Sawburg Avenue at 7:00 pm.  See you there  J

July 2008
The July 28, 2008 meeting at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church was called to order at 7:00 by our president, Mary Bernower with a mighty bang of that gavel.  J  We had one returning guest join us for our meeting.  Her name is Janet Kekel and we hope that she will become a permanent member of our group.
 
We began our meeting with an up-dated rendition of the song
“My Favorite Things” from the Sound of Music.  It was very appropriate for those of us over 50 years of age!!!!!
 
Peggy Castina, our Treasurer, reported that the Carnation Board is now charging $250.00 for our quilt show participation at the mall during Carnation week.  She also found out that the quilt we made for the Domestic Violence Shelter’s auction brought in $450.00 to the shelter.  Our treasury has a balance of $1231.05.   Kathy Wolf gave the secretary’s report.
 
Old and New Business:
 
---The Picnic committee---Brenda Sweely, Nancy Gano, Mona Floor, and Ruthann Moore----a BIG thank you to all----we all had a “ball” at our annual picnic.  It was a “homerun” event  J
 
---The Carnation Quilt Show committee---Gwen Liverett, Margie DelPuppo, Cindy Bunn, and Priscilla Yukich---is asking for volunteers for Friday afternoon (August 8th) at 4:00 at the mall to help set up.  The rest of us need to be there on Saturday, August 9th at 8:30 to put the finishing touches on our show.  Tear down will take place at 2:00.  Demonstrations of all kinds will be taking place in the back room. The theme of our quilt show is “A QUILTER’S GARDEN”. 
 
---Mary Bernower spoke about the Northcoast Quilt Shop is sponsoring a “Block for the Cure”.  There is information on the internet if you are interested.  Mary shared 3 blocks that she is entering herself.
 
---Fran Oblander will be sending a letter to the NEORQC shop hop shops and ask for prizes/certificates/donations for door prizes at the October NEORQC birthday bash.  She will have a report by the August meeting with her results.
 
---Secret Sister gifts were distributed---what fun :)

---Our program for the evening was a demonstration of crazy quilting.  Kathy Wolf reported on the history of crazy quilting and Cheryl Hoff explained and taught us the “modern” method of crazy quilting.
 
The next meeting will be Monday, August 25, 2008 at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church on Sawburg Avenue at 7:00 pm.  Don’t forget that the rag quilt challenge is due  J
