Directions:
4 - 5 1/2 inch blocks
8 - 2 inch blocks
2 - 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch light
rectangles
2 - 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch dark
rectangles
1 - 3 1/2 inch square to match 2 inch blocks
Mark a diagonal line on the 2 inch squares -sew on the line on 3 1/2 x 5 1/2
rectangles, fold over and trim seam to 1/4 inch. Sew into 3 rows. Join
rows. Block will be over sized. Trim to 12 1/2 inch square. |

8 - 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 squares of colors 2 and 3.
Make 4 pairs of colors 1 and 2 rectangles. Sew a pair to each side of
the 4 1/2 inch square.
Make 4 pairs of 2 1/2 inch squares of colors 2 and
3. Sew a pair to each pair of remaining rectangles. Make 3 rows and sew
together to make 12 1/2 inch block. |

Lightest Fabric A - Cut one 7-14" square(cut into four quarter square
triangles.
Darkest fabric B - cut one 4 3/4" squaree
Dark fabric C - cut two 3 7/8" squares (cut into four half-square triangles)
Medium fabric D and Light fabric E - cut one each 2 5/8" X 44" strips
Stitch fabric D 2 5/8" X 44" strip lengthwise to the fabric E strip.
From this D/E pieced strip cut four 4 3/4" slices.
Combine each four D/E units with a fabric C half-square triangle. Stitch.
Stitch two E/D/C units to fabric B square.
Stitch two fabric A quarter-square pieces to the sides of the remaining
D/E/C/ units.
Sew the three sections together diagonally.

Light fabric: Cut 6 squares 37/8" X 37/8" cut in half diagonally

Make 8 half-square triangle units from the light and dark triangles.
Make 4 half-square triangles from medium and light triangles
Make 4 half-square triangles from medium and dark triangles

Color 2 - cut one 2 1/2" X 10" strip and one 2 7/8" X 11 1/2" and one 2 7/8"

Color 3(background) - cut one 4 1/2" X 18" strip and two 2 7/8" X 11 1/2"
strips
Color 1- 5"X 15" rectangle cut into twelve 2 1/2"squares
Color 2 - 2 1/2" X 10" strip cut into four 2 1/2" squares
Color 3 - cut 4 1/2" X 18" strip into four 4 1/2" squares
Color 3/color 1- 2 7/8" X 11 1/2" strips into eight half-square triangles
Color 3/color 2 - 2 7/8" X11 1/2" strips into eight half-square triangles.
Color 1/color 2 - 2 7/8" X 5 3/4" strips into four half-square triangles
Place color 1 -2 1/2 square in the upper left corner of a color 3 4 1/2"
square. Sew diagonally. Place color 1 square on opposing corner - sew
diagonally- trim excess. Place color 1 on top right corner-sew
diagonally-trim excess. Place color 2 on opposing corner-sew
diagonally-remove excess. Make four matching units.
Sew a color 1/color 3 half-square to a color 2/color 3 half-square. Sew a
color 2/color3 half square to a color1/color 3 half-square. Make four units.
Make the center block joining the four color1/color 2 half squares.

Background fabric: cut twelve 2 1/2" squares for outer squares and corners
of flying geese.
Cut four 2 7/8" squares for half-square triangles. Do not cut in half.
Medium Color Fabric: cut four 2 1/2" squares for corner units and one 4 1/2"
square for the center.
Medium or Dark Fabric: cut four 2 7/8" squares for half-square triangles. Do
not cut in half .
Dark Fabric: Cut four 4 1/2" squares for the flying geese. |

Be sure to measure at each step. Subunits should measure 4 1/2 inches
when finished.
Dark Fabric: Cut two 4 7/8" squares, cut each in half diagonally; cut
one 4 1/2" square for center of block
Light Fabric: cut one 5 1/4" square, cut in half diagonally in both
directions. Cut four 2 1/2" squares.
Background Fabric: cut one 5 1/4" square, cut in half diagonally in both
directions. Cut four 4 1/2" squares.
Middle section: take 2 1/2" light color square and draw line diagonally.
Place square on dark triangle and sew on line. Cut off excess 1/4" from
line.Take background triangle and light color triangle, sew
together. Sew this unit to dark triangle unit. Unit should measure 4
1/2". Assemble block |

Black Fabric: Cut two 4 7/8" squares
Cut one 5 1/4" square
Cut one 2 1/2 X 19" stripRed Fabric: Cut two 4 7/8" squares
Cut one 5 1/4" square
Gold Fabric: Cut one 2 1/2 X 19" strip
Pair a red 4 7/8" square with a black 4 7/8" square. Pair a red 5 1/4"
square with a black 5 1/4" square. Make half-square triangle blocks
with each. Take one of the 4 7/8" half square triangles and draw a
diagonal line from one corner to the next. Align the two larger red/black
units right sides together, placing unlike colors on top of each other.
Sew a 1/4" on each side of the marked line. Trim on the center line,
cut apart and press. The resulting units should measure 4 1/2" square.
One will not be used. Sew the two 19" squares together lengthwise.
Press seam towards the darker strip. Cut into four 4 1/2" segments.
Arrange components into three rows. |
